How to clean and maintain Vinyl flooring
General Advice
Vinyl flooring within hospital settings is susceptible to damage from a range of factors, including exposure to solvents and discolouration caused by black rubber wheels or furniture feet. To preserve the appearance of the floor, it is recommended to wipe up any oil-based spills immediately and fit protective caps or glides on chair or equipment legs. Light-coloured Vinyl flooring may require more frequent cleaning to maintain its visual appearance.
Initial Site Cleaning
An initial site clean is strongly recommended before using the new flooring. For lightly soiled areas, vacuum, sweep, or damp mop to remove loose dirt and construction dust. For larger areas, a combined scrubber/dryer equipped with brushes or white/yellow pads is highly effective. Use a low pH detergent (between 3 and 5) to lift residual construction dust.
Daily Cleaning
For daily cleaning, begin by removing dust with a dry mop. Prepare a neutral detergent according to the recommended dosage and clean the floor using a damp mop. To remove marks, use a nylon pad moistened with methylated spirits, cleaning alcohol, or a natural detergent, addressing stains as soon as they appear. Finally, rinse the surface with clean water.
Once a week
Remove dust from the surface using a dry mop, then prepare a neutral detergent according to the recommended dosage. Apply the cleaning solution to the floor and allow it to sit for 5–10 minutes to loosen dirt. Once absorbed, clean the area using a combined scrubber-dryer machine with a 3M red pad. Immediately vacuum away the dirty water, then rinse with clean water. Allow the floor to dry completely.
Chemicals for cleaning
For damp or wet cleaning, use a neutral detergent or maintainer compatible with the chosen maintenance system.
In wet areas, occasional cleaning with an acidic solution (pH 3–5) may be necessary to remove limescale and soap residue.
For areas with heavy soiling or wear, machine cleaning is recommended. Apply a strong alkaline cleaning solution (pH 10–11 diluted in water) to the floor and allow it to act for 5–10 minutes before scrubbing.
Important: Always follow the manufacturers dosage instructions carefully!
How to restore flooring damage
For iQ Floors: Immediately after the machine has cleaned the floor, use dry buffing machine with a 500 to 1000 rpm red pad 3M. The higher the speed, the higher the gloss.
For other Vinyl Floors: A polish system shall be used with a minimum of two coating layers.
